The laboratory of Sensorimotor Integration at the Champalimaud Research Programme has a postdoctoral opening available immediately for an ERC funded project investigating multimodal integration in brain visuomotor circuits controlling locomotion.
We use single-cell and population-based physiological neural recordings in behaving flies (Drosophila melanogaster), in combination with chemogenetic and optogenetic methods for manipulating specific, genetically identified pathways in order to study the functional interactions among motion-sensitive visual neurons, premotor neurons, and neurons from various “integrative” brain regions in the context of visually-guided locomotion. Qualified applicants should have a PhD in neuroscience, experimental physics, or in math or engineer with a deep interest in the functional organization of neural circuits for motor control. Previous experience with the above-described techniques is ideal but not a requirement. Most importantly, we are seeking for a creative, self-motivated colleague with a genuine drive to understand complex phenomena, and to solve problems.

The opening is available immediately but the start date is flexible and applications will be considered until a suitable candidate is found. Interested applicants should direct inquiries to Eugenia Chiappe (with subject “BPD your LAST NAME”) at eugenia.chiappe@neuro.fchampalimaud.org. For more information, visit our lab

The Champalimaud Research Programme (CR) is aimed at establishing new links between nervous system function and behavior. Our interests are represented by the full intellectual scope of the scientists of the program. To achieve this goal, the CR fosters colleagues to reach their full creative potential and promotes collective achievements through cooperation, exchange, and independence and diversity of thought. English is the official language of the institute. The institute is located at the beautiful waterfront of Lisbon, Portugal. Lisbon offers a sunny Atlantic-Mediterranean climate, affordable cost of living, and vibrant culture, with good public transportation, international schools and convenient housing options both within and outside the city center.
