Full-stack software engineer

  7. We are looking for a full-stack software engineer with proven skills in designing, managing and implementing applications to collect and analyse non-scientific and scientific data. You should have academic or professional experience in the development of front-end applications for relational databases and motivation to work in a research environment. You should also have a strong desire to constantly learn and innovate as your work will support cutting-edge research at the Champalimaud Foundation.

    Responsibilities
    The full-stack software engineer will design, develop and deploy tools for structuring data and support the Champalimaud Research Unit work processes. The full-stack software engineer will report to the Champalimaud Research Directors and work in close conjunction with the administratives units and researchers. The responsibilities will include a broad range of tasks like:
    ´ Continue the development and support of existing data structures;
    ´ Master and improve the business processes in the Champalimaud Research Unit;
    ´ Interact with the Champalimaud internal clients, and actively look for their needs and ways of improving their work;
    ´ Design and develop software tools to support the collection, storage and analysis of large complex data sets including verifying data integrity, web based monitoring and management;
    ´ Support the deployment of open source software tools for scientific and IT infrastructures including finding and fixing critical bugs and implementing new features;
    ´ Interact with internal clients on all levels to help solve IT-related issues and provide answers in a timely manner;

    Skills \ Qualifications
    “ Experience with analysis and development of relational databases applications;
    “ Experience in at least one of the following languages: Python, C# or Java;
    “ Experience with web technologies;
    “ Motivation, willingness and ability to learn new software and technologies quickly;
    “ Proven experience in databases design and architecture;
    “ Multi tasking ability while consistently remaining approachable to researchers;
    “ Understanding of modern development life cycle tools such as versioning systems, quality control and unit testing, software deployment and user support
    (documentation, bug-tracking, feature request management, etc);
    “ Good communications skills;
    “ Proficiency in the Microsoft, Linux, and Mac OS platforms;
    “ Previous experience in an academic environment is highly desirable.
    “ Knowledge and experience in machine learning is highly desirable.
    “ Professional experience in software and databases development will be a plus;
